Manager, Systems Operations Center

- Lead the SOC by providing oversight and systems to proactively monitor, control and ensure 24 x 7 availability and production for the renewable generating facilities under the responsibility of Acciona Energy North America in a safe, reliable and economic manner
- Coordinate with CECOER (Spain 24 x 7 Operations Center) on regional activities along with alignment of goals and KPI’s
- Ensure Acciona compliance with regulatory requirements by directing SOC implementation of Regulatory Compliance Department procedures and by actively participating on the AENA Regulatory Compliance Committee
- Direct and support dispatch of site personnel to perform system restoration and service activities
- Lead the development of processes and procedures to safely and effectively operate Acciona renewable generating facilities for “Best in Class Performance”
- Provide leadership and oversight in planning and directing Switching and Tagging for office and field personnel in the operations and restoration of the wind farms
- Lead in the recruitment, hiring, qualifications and training of system operation personnel
- Develop, implement and maintain required and accurate documentation and records
- Identify, develop and build relationships with 3rd party service providers
- Proactively pursue and maintain existing 3rd party service opportunities for SOC.
- Ensure that the proper SCADA software & communication systems are installed and maintained in order to support “Best in Class Performance” at our SOC and in all of our renewable generating facilities
- E nsure timely and accurate communication of information to the appropriate entities of system disturbances, emergency conditions and other events adversely affecting the wind farms under the responsibility of the SOC and/or the Bulk Power System
- Ensure all personnel and subcontractors for the operations functions meet technical and safety training requirements.  Conduct and review safety analyses and reviews of hazards and energy sources.  Develop a system of compliance checks for operating and safety rules
- Be proficient at Root Cause Analysis to accurately determine and model failure mode and cause
- Develop and present the organization’s project, capital and operating expense budgets for system operation functions.  Identify cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities for analysis and implementation. Lead analysis of cost performance against budget
- Facilitate the daily, weekly and monthly reporting requirements for our internal and external customers, as well as KPI reporting
- Facilitate development of employees by providing constructive feedback and continuous coaching/mentoring.  Identify further training and education to enhance employee growth and continued job performance improvement
- Lead the training of the system operation personnel.  Maintain required training certifications and proficiencies for self and team
- Represent Acciona within the industry, including facilitation of professional presentations to national trade groups, and acting as an advisor to industry boards
- Maintain a working understanding of all SOC procedures, relevant NERC Reliability Standards, and Acciona renewable technology
- Comply with applicable regulatory reliability standards and compliance requirements, including but not limited to, market rules and NERC Reliability Standards
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent. 
- Advanced degree and/or P.E. a plus
- 5-10 years of experience in system operations in a utility, power plant or renewable generating facility environment
- Demonstrate continuous commitment to safe operations.  Be an active role model and constant resource to the organization
- In-depth knowledge of SCADA systems and OSI Pi historian
- Ability to plan, direct switching and tagging for field personnel in the operation and restoration of the wind farm
- NERC & PJM certification desirable, but nor required
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of one line diagrams related to substations and transmission systems
- Demonstrated advance IT knowledge and hardware maintenance
- Must be able and willing to monitor renewable generating facilities performance and reliability at all times
- Ability to travel up to 25% to domestic and international locations.
- Possess the ability to think and analyze situations, and determine and implement effective resolutions in a fast paced environment.  Ability to clearly communicate detailed information accurately in an emergency situation
- Strengths will include excellent communications, organization, positive leadership, and negotiation skills
- Ability to successfully interact with key executives, external and internal customers.
- Demonstrated competence in utilizing computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
- Posses a working understanding of cost accounting, budgeting and contract implementation
- Valid driver’s license
- Hold or be able to obtain a passport
- Familiarity with US and Canadian electric markets (MISO, PJM, ERCOT, SPP, AESO and IESO) is desirable
- Experience working with renewable generating systems is desirable
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
